There is often question about the names of different types of round windows, and indeed the same window can have different names around the world. Common names for round windows in general can be: bulls eye window, porthole window, or simply: round window!
So here is a quick run down of common round window types:
Central Pivot Round Window
This is our most popular window type, and consists of an outer frame, which holds the inner frame, or sash. The sash spins horizontally (or in some cases on the vertical axis) to open the window. In the horizontal version the top of the window opens to the inside, and the bottom opens out. The size of our pivot windows starts at 50cm outer diameter, and can be made to any size larger than this.

Porthole Window
The porthole window is generally a smaller window, ours start from 30cm. The frame is generally a standard thickness and depth. It is made to be robust and functional.
Historically a porthole window was installed in a ship or other vehicle. They were made to open (unlike ours) in order to ventilate and allow in light.
Our portholes are made with a total depth of 6cm, with a frame width of 5cm. They are sold with glass that has been made to fit the recess, and cannot be modified to accept a larger depth of glass pane.

Round Window Light, or Fixed Window
The Round window light differs from the porthole in that its aim is to let as much light and view in through the window. For this reason it is made with as slim a frame as reasonably possible (considering weight and strength limitations). The design is more modern and sleek than the porthole.
Our Window lights are made with a frame depth of 4cm, as well as a thickness of 4cm. They are supplied with glass which must be installed after the window is fixed in the wall, and can accept glass depths of 10-22mm
