Spread the love

Your porthole window will arrive with the glass installed, and 5 screws holding the beading in place.

Start by removing the 5 screws carefully.

You can now separate the frame on the left, the glass, and the beading on the right. If you have ordered more than one of the same window make sure to keep the beading and frame together as the screw holes should align again when reinstalling the beading!

Place your window frame in the wall opening and decide where your screw holes will be. In a small window like the one pictured you may need to mark the screw holes with a pen, then drill the hole from the outside of the frame.

As you can see in the photo below, the rubber strip sits at the bottom of the frame. This is to hold the glass in the centre of the frame and allows for expansion and contraction.

Fix your frame into the wall. Then you can place in the glass. It may help to add a bit of silicone here to secure the glass in place while you fix the beading.

Now place the beading in position. Be sure to align the screw holes! The windows arrive with the screws in place but not tightly fitted. This is so that when you remove the screws there is no damage to the beading. When reinstalling the beading, you can screw all the way in so the screw head is not so visible. you can then paint over the screw head after installation to make it less visible still.

After screwing the beading in, the window is secure. On the exterior face it is essential to now apply silicone where the glass meets the frame. It is also advisable to silicone the interior face where the glass meets the beading, this is to ensure no condensation runs into the frame.
