Our round windows are made to last. A circle window is made from separate boards of wood, joined together to make a polygon. A round frame is then cut from the polygon.
The easiest and quickest way to make a round frame is to make one polygon and cut the circle from this. However unless using a strong joint between each board in the polygon (such as finger joints, or a domino joint), this single polygon is extremely vulnerable to twisting and breaking.
With that in mind we make our outside frame with 4 polygons, laminated together, and our inner frame is made with 2 polygons laminated together.
When the round window is completely assembled we treat it 2 times for fungus and termites.
We generally recommend to our customers to select a finish option such as paint or varnish. That way we can send our windows out with a professional finish, with all the weather seals already installed.
With paint we apply a minimum of 4 coats, and one extra when using a gloss. With varnish we apply 6 coats. This level of finish means that the wood is protected over the long term and the window will have the longest possible life span.
And finally our windows come with double glazing as standard. We generally use 16mm double glazing (4+8+4mm). If you want a thicker glass then please let us know and we can cut the glass recess deeper, or shallower to your preference.
Dont know how deep your glass will be? A 25mm recess depth should be fine for most modern double glazing, but it is always best to check with your glass fabricator to see the final depth, as making a deeper glass recess required specialist tools.
