Flor da Iris is a small, dedicated carpentry workshop in Portugal, run by me, Tom Keeling. I specialise in crafting high-quality round wooden windows.

The Beginning of Flor da Iris

My journey into carpentry began in 2015, focusing on large structural elements like roofs, trusses, and wooden frameworks for small dwellings. These projects required precise yet sturdy joinery, with tolerances measured in centimeters (rather than fractions of a millimeter that the round windows demand). However, in 2023, everything changed when a client approached me with an unusual request: to create two round timber windows for her home.

At the time, I had never even considered curved joinery. My work involved straight, laminated pine beams designed for stability and strength. The idea of making circular frames seemed daunting, but I was intrigued. I took on the challenge, accepting a small deposit to cover materials, knowing that if I failed, I could refund the client and move on.

For days, I immersed myself in studying circular joinery—reading, researching, and watching every video I could find. Slowly, a plan took shape, and with careful execution, I brought those first two round wooden windows to life. They were a success, and from that moment, Flor da Iris Round Wooden Windows was born.

From a Single Window to a Growing Business

From early 2025, I have been crafting round windows full-time, allowing the business to grow naturally. Each new project pushes me to refine my techniques and experiment with different materials and styles.

What started with two small pine pivot windows quickly expanded into a wider collection of designs. I now create:
